Types of Stairs – an Introduction

Over the millennia we have carved them into mountain sides, into the internal sections of sandstone caves.

We are now re- defining them making them to our liking and our space and function

Types of Stairs:

All of Stairwalker  (PTY) LTD staircases are all locally manufactured, in-house with various materials such as hard woods, stainless and mild steel, glass, plexi-glass to name a few. Each staircase is compatible with any balustrade solution that is custom made to suite your design requirements.

Floating Staircase:

The floating staircase is a European inspired design which gives the illusion that the staircase is floating in mid-air without any structural support.

We have manufactured and installed over 500 floating staircases for our very happy clients over the past decade and have therefore been able to perfect the floating concept.

Available with Mild steel/ Stainless steel boxes, or Solid Hardwood Timber – Kiaat/ Rhodesian Teak/ Rose Wood.

Box Floating Staircase:

The floating staircase is a European inspired design which gives the illusion that the staircase is floating in mid-air without any structural support.

The box floating staircase boasts thicker, chunkier treads.

We have manufactured and installed over 500 floating staircases for our very happy clients over the past decade and have therefore been able to perfect the floating concept.

Tubular Floating:

Timber Tubular Floating Stair

The tubular floating is a fantastic alternative to a single or double stringer Staircase where a heavy structure is not needed as undercarriage. It is very sleek in design and elements in combination with balustrade can be designed and blended to form one

unit.

Cantilever Staircase:

The cantilever staircase is made up of individual treads which are fixed /supported at one end and free at the other. This gives the effect of each tread projecting from the wall with no visible support.

This is a very versatile staircase and can be used in both residential and commercial applications.

Stairwalker has developed and designed some unique cantilever concepts which significantly reduces costs as well as manufacturing and installation time. This product is set to take the industry by storm.

Double Stringer Staircase:

The double stringer staircase is one of the most versatile and vastly used designer staircase types. This double support staircase is extremely sturdy and requires no additional structural support, which allows for a very open look and feel.

Single Stringer Staircase:

The single stringer staircase is an industry favourite due to its solid structure and component versatility. The single support allows for space to be creative with structural design and tread fixing detail.

Spiral Staircase:

The spiral staircase is an ideal space saver which rotates around its own axis. What this staircase lacks in versatility it more than makes up for it with its beautiful lines and curves.

Full Closed Floating Staircase:

The full closed staircase is a beautiful closed zigzag profiled staircase which can be adapted to any of our staircase solutions.

helix Stair – combination Staircase

The Helix Staircase is a curved stair in three-dimensional space. It is one of the most beautiful staircases if the right combinations of both structural and aesthetic materials are used because of its flowing curves and open spaces. This staircase can really create and illusion of enchantment and mystery if the right design elements are applied.
